Idile Majemu Foundation Celebrates 6th Edition of Isokan Excellence Bursary Scheme

The Idile Majemu Foundation is delighted to announce the successful completion of the sixth edition of the Isokan Excellence Bursary Scheme, supporting outstanding students at Obafemi Awolowo University during the 2023/2024 academic year. The programme, sustained by the generosity of our partners and donors, continues to make a meaningful impact in promoting academic excellence and reducing financial barriers for young scholars.

This year’s bursary cycle began in September 2024 with an open call for applications. The Foundation received 38 submissions, reflecting the growing visibility and credibility of the scheme. After a careful review and consultation process, 36 students were shortlisted, with 34 ultimately proceeding to the interview stage.

A Merit-Driven Selection Process

In line with the Foundation’s commitment to rewarding excellence, the Trustees adopted a tiered scholarship model to ensure that awards reflected the quality of each applicant’s academic performance and interview outcomes. Successful candidates were placed in one of three categories:

Gold – 100% of tuition fees

Silver – 75% of tuition fees

Bronze – 50% of tuition fees

A total of 34 students received awards across these tiers, representing a diverse spread of faculties including Arts, Administration, Sciences, Education, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Social Sciences, Law and Technology.

Direct Support to Student Beneficiaries

Following a final virtual engagement with all selected students on 30 October 2024, disbursements were processed directly into beneficiaries’ individual bank accounts. The Foundation invested a total of ₦1,897,750 in this year’s awards—an achievement made possible through the steadfast support of our donors.

A Growing Community of Support

Speaking on the success of the 2023/2024 cycle, the Trustees expressed deep appreciation to all partners and contributors whose generosity continues to sustain the vision of the Isokan Excellence Bursary Scheme. Over the years, the scheme has grown into a reliable support system for students, easing financial pressures and encouraging academic ambition.

The Foundation remains committed to expanding the reach and impact of the bursary in the coming years, with a continued focus on merit, transparency and community-driven support.

Looking Ahead

As preparations begin for the next edition of the bursary scheme, the Idile Majemu Foundation celebrates the resilience and achievements of the 2023/2024 awardees. Their stories represent the hope and promise that inspired the creation of this initiative, and we are proud to contribute to their academic journeys.
